BEAUTIFUL CLOUDS

BBC News

Shared publicly - 3 Nov 2014

In this photo taken with smartphone camera, a fallstreak hole forms in the sky over Wonthaggi, Australia, Monday, Nov. 3, 2014. A fallstreak hole is a circular gap that appears in high clouds, when a section of the cloud freezes. The ice crystals are heavy, so they fall out of the cloud, leaving a hole. It is a relatively rare phenomenon.

EXCELLENT DISABLED PARKING BAY ABUSE PROTEST!

Wheelchair users found an original way to protest the abuse of disabled parking bays in
Lisbon, Portugal. Weekenders that day (November 11) who attempted to park their car in a normal parking space outdoor Saldanha, Lisbon, saw all the usual places occupied by a wheelchair.

Wheelchairs had written messages on the back with messages like "I'll be back in 10 minutes", "I won't be long" or "I'm just having a coffee", the usual justifications for those not experiencing any physical limitation, who park their cars in places reserved for persons with disabilities.

Similar initiatives were carried out in the city of Vila Real (Portugal, in photographs) as well as in Boa Vista on Avenida Jaime Brazil, the National Day of Struggle for the Disabled.

At Putrajaya Hospital, a supernatural cleansing

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 11 — Behind its veneer of modernity and state-of-the-art technology, a hospital in the administrative capital of Putrajaya gave in to the supernatural when it resorted to engaging Islamic spiritual healers to cleanse itself of alleged “hauntings” last week.

Hospital Putrajaya’s administration had over the weekend invited some 40 Islamic healers from renowned Bangi-based Darussyifa’ for a “memagar” (bordering) ritual to ostensibly repel a supernatural presence, after complaints from its staff over the last two years.

The ritual was confirmed by staff members who spoke of seeing men in white kopiah (skullcaps) sprinkling water around the hospital in the purported ritual.

Security staff also spoke of seeing small mounds of white and black powder in corners of the hospital, admitting that they were baffled by them.

Darussyifa’ is the foremost centre in the nation for Islamic healing—faith healing with the use of Quranic verses and rituals—led by renowned religious scholar Datuk Dr Haron Din, who is also the deputy spiritual leader of Islamist party PAS.

World's Unique Streets and Roads

1. World's Shortest Street (Ebenezer Place – Scotland)
Ebenezer Place, in Wick, Caithness, Scotland, is credited as being the world's shortest street in the Guinness Book of Records at 2.06m (6' 9"). There is a single address on this weird street: the front door of No. 1 Bistro, which is part of Mackays Hotel, which was constructed in 1883. The owner of the building, a hotel at the time, was instructed to paint a name on the shortest side of the hotel. It was officially declared a street in 1887.

2. World's Narrowest Street (Spreuerhofstraße – Germany)
Spreuerhofstraße is the world's narrowest street, found in the city of Reutlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It ranges from 31 centimetres (12 in) at its narrowest to 50 centimetres (20 in) at its widest. The lane was built in 1727 during the reconstruction efforts after the area was completely destroyed in the massive city-wide fire of 1726 and is officially listed in the Land-Registry Office as City Street Number 77.

'Physically Disabled' or 'Enabled for Paradise' ?

Those suffering from mental illness or extreme physical ailments are often treated shamefully by fellow Muslims. Many times, they are overtly excluded from being a part of the Muslim community; whether it's looking at them askance, avoiding talking to them or not making an effort to make our masaajid and Islamic centers wheel-chair friendly, our behavior is in direct contradiction to the Sunnah of RasulAllah (sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam).

We tend to use the term "disabled" to describe people who have been tested by Allah in terms of their physical or mentally health - yet what we don't realize is that in many cases, they are actually far more "enabled" than the rest of us are. Our brothers and sisters in Islam who are experiencing these trials in their lives often display levels of patience and strength in the face of hardship than most of us, who enjoy good health throughout our lives, do.

Indian Muslims ‘Cleansed’ in Muzaffarnagar

NEW DELHI – A fact-finding report on the Muzaffarnagar clashes that led to death of 47 people and mass exodus has accused Hindu ruling and opposition parties of complicity in attempts to cleanse Muslims from some Hindu-majority villages, a charge politicians denied vehemently.

“Muslims were attacked not so much with the intent of causing death… but with the object of chasing them out of the Hindu-majority villages," the team from Centre for Policy Analysis (CPA) said in a report cited by The World Bulletin on Thursday, September 19.

The report went on to point to "a plan to end decades of coexistence and 'cleanse' certain villages of their Muslim presence."

10 Most Amazing Bridges

1. Banpo Bridge (South Korea): The Fountain Bridge

On September 9, 2008, the Banpo Bridge in Seoul (South Korea) got a major facelift: a 10,000-nozzle fountain that runs all the way on both sides. Immediately after being installed, the bridge turned into a major tourist attraction, as the bridge pumps out 190 tons of water per minute using the water from the river below.

2. Millau Bridge (France): World's Tallest Vehicular Bridge
Towering 1,125-ft above the Tarn Valley in southern France, driving along the Millau Bridge is said to feel like flying. This Foster + Partners marvel is slightly taller than the Eiffel Tower, took three years to build and opened to the public in 2004. While it may provide picturesque views of the valley below, once the mist descends it is not a route for the faint hearted! The Millau Bridge has a total length of 8,071-ft with the longest single span at 1,122-ft and a maximum clearance below of 886-ft; in short the bridge is massively impressive both on paper and in real life. The deck is lofted on 7 pylons and weighs 36,000 tonnes. A series of 7 masts, each 292-ft tall and weighing 700 tonnes, are attached to the corresponding pylons.

Super Taxis

DOUBLE KLIK PICTUREs

This car from "Rides Magazine" has been tricked out as a high-riser with spinners to celebrate the Crown Victoria, the most common taxi car model.

Need to get across town really fast? Then this is the perfect taxi for you. A Lamborghini Murcielago with a 6.5 liter engine under the hood, spewing out 633 bhp so you can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds to stop at the red light.

Porsche Cayenne - taxi in Moscow. What happened to old nice Ladas?

This looks like a gangster cab.

Take a look at this Ferrari Enzo sporting, a new Arab taxi design. The $850,000 hypercar was spotted in Muscat, Oman, and also appears to have blacked-out rear lights.
Note: according to Ferrarichat.com, this is photoshopped, but pretty cool anyway.

Hybrid Technologies shows off a concept L-PT Cruiser Yellow Cab. The L stands for lithium, as in the lithium ion battery pack that would give the car a range of 120 miles and a top speed of 80 mph.

Coco taxi, a three-wheeled taxicab used in Havana, Cuba. You can't say you've been in Cuba until you ride in one of those.

These taxi's wide, interchangeable doors can be hosed down. A built-in ramp lets wheelchairs or scooters roll right in.
